In protest against fur clothes, Barcelona activists go naked

Animal rights defenders stripped down Sunday in the Spanish tourist hub of Barcelona to draw attention to the cruelty of the fur industry.
Dozens of activists, naked, doused in fake blood and piled together in imitation of a heap of animal carcasses, staged a lie-in in the centre of town.
“How many lives just for a coat?” read a sign in English held up by Luisa Escribano, 53, and her daughter Barbara, 21, in the middle of the protesters.
“It is very important to draw attention to what happens to the animals, and which goes largely unnoticed. They suffer and die on farms, but their lives matter for me and my family,” said Luisa.
Each year, over 60 million animals — including over 32 million in the European Union — are killed around the world to make coats and other items from their skin, according to international animal rights group, AnimaNaturalis, which staged the demonstration
Europe produces 70 percent of the world’s mink fur and 63 percent of its fox fur, according to the group.
Denmark and Finland are the world’s largest producers and exporters of mink and fox fur.
Other major producers are Russia, Canada, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Crystal Palace sack Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew has been sacked as Crystal Palace manager with the club just above the relegation places, the Premier League side’s chairman Steve Parish said on Thursday.
Pardew, 55, guided Palace to last season’s FA Cup final where they lost to Manchester United in extra time but their Premier League form this term has been poor.
They have won just four of their 17 matches and only one of their last 11, and are presently only a point above the relegation places.
The immediate frontrunner to replace Pardew appeared to be Sam Allardyce, whose England reign lasted just one match before he had to resign after making ill-advised remarks to undercover reporters.

“I would like to put on record our sincere gratitude for the tremendous service Alan has given us, both in his time here as manager and previously as a player,” said Parish in a statement published on the club website.
“Following a fantastic second half of 2014/15, the 2015/16 season culminated in only narrowly missing out on winning the FA Cup as well as securing our Premier League place for a record breaking fourth time.
Parish said Pardew, who played for the club as well and described his return when appointed manager in early 2015 as a homecoming, had left a legacy which would benefit Palace for years to come.
“During his tenure Alan’s hard work and dedication were without question, he has improved so many areas of the club and we wish him the very best for the future,” said Parish.
“With games now coming thick and fast over the holiday period the club are hoping to put someone in place as quickly as possible but have nothing to say about a replacement at this time.”
Pardew, whose previous managerial jobs include West Ham United, Southampton and Newcastle United, said his “special bond” with the Eagles had not been affected by the ending of his managerial reign.
“I would just like to take the opportunity to thank everybody at Crystal Palace for their fantastic support,” said Pardew.
“In particular a big thanks to the players who gave me absolutely everything and Steve Parish and his Board.
“Personally I have a lot of good feelings for this football Club and am sad that my time there has ended.”

Federal roads in the East need urgent attention, Ikpeazu tells Senate

Governor Ikpeazu with senator Kabiru Gaya

Abia Gvernor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has described road infrastructure as the oil that lubricates trade and commerce and appealed to the federal government to urgently address the deplorable state of federal roads in the South East and South South geopolitical zones.
The Governor made the appeal at the Government House, Umuahia, when he received in audience the members of the senate committee on Works led by the chairman, Senator Kabiru Gaya.
The Governor also stated that the poor road network in the South South and South East, especially Abia State, makes it difficult for commerce and business to flourish, noting that a journey from Aba to Ikot Ekpene or Aba to Port Harcourt that would ordinarily take 30 minutes now takes between 3 to 5 hours.
He lamented that most federal roads in the state including the Aba-Ikot Ekpene, the Umuahia-Ikot
Ekpene, Umuahia-Ohafia- Arochukwu federal roads pose serious threats to lives and properties of road users as well as endanger the security of communities along the routes.
According to the Governor, "good roads and electricity are essential for the five policy pillars of our administration, of which trade and commerce are key, to succeed".
He advised the engineers handling federal road contracts in the South East to look at the history of the roads to ascertain why they keep failing at some key points.
Earlier, the chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Gaya, said they were in the state to look at some of the deplorable federal roads as part of their oversight functions.
According to him, "we want to ensure that contractors handling federal roads carry out their functions well as the federal government is serious and committed to providing good roads to Nigerians".
Sen Gaya commended the Governor for his efforts at moving the state forward as well as the senators from Abia for their unity of purpose in ensuring that the bad roads in the state are given attention.

Abuja International Airport shutdown, see why.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, says the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, will be closed for six weeks in February and March 2017 for total repairs on the runway.
Mr. Sirika told journalists in Abuja on Monday that the closure will allow Julius Berger carry out total re-construction on the badly damaged airport runway.
He said while the runway would still be put to use under the six months of rehabilitation, the six weeks would allow the mid-section of the runway to be reconstructed.
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstruction through the emergency procurement procedure for work to commence.
This, according to him, is because of the centrality, economy and the importance of Abuja to the general administration of the country.
He said government could not afford to close down Abuja airport for a long time as palliative repairs had been ongoing on the runway in the last three months.
“From start to finish of the runway, it will take six months. However, we will be using the runway almost throughout the period except for about six weeks when the runway will be closed.
“That is when we are going to do the mid-section of the runway.
“The government has accepted the design done by the contractor. The runway will last for than 10 years on completion early next year,” he said.
Mr. Sirika said Abuja bound passengers from any part of the world will use Kaduna airport as alternative during the six weeks closure to passengers.
He said arrangement had been finalised with Kaduna State, adding that while the federal government will provide buses to convey the passengers to Abuja, the state government will provide security.
According to him, it will cost government substantial amount of money “but we think that palliative approach is wrong because three years down we will come back to do the same repairs.
“Therefore, we decided to go for the bigger option which is to do structural repairs if the runway which will take about six months to complete,” he said.
On the Bilateral Air Agreement with other countries, Mr. Sirika said the government had signed BASA with 18 countries that Nigerians frequently visit and do business with.
The MOUs, he said, would give Nigeria the opportunity to operate air services with 18 countries.
“With this, we have the freedom to fly and land safely in other air space and this will assist in opening our market.’’

Man gets N100,000 bail for snatching bag containing N4,000

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday slammed a N100,000 bail on a motorcyclist, Saheed Olayinka, who snatched a bag containing N4,000 belonging to Mrs Taiwo Olasumbo.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya granted the accused bail after he pleaded not guilty to a two-count of conspiracy and stealing.

He said, “The accused jumped down from their motorcycle, approached the complainant, commanding her to surrender her bag.

“They threatened to shoot her son if she refused to comply and for fear of being harmed, the complainant gave them her bag.
“The accused jumped back on their motorcycle and rode off.”
Nwosu said the complainant raised alarm which attracted the attention of some sympathisers who chased after the accused. He said the accused fell off the motorcycle which led to his arrest, while his accomplice who had the money escaped.

I am a professional husband snatcher.

Nigeria’s cross-dressing social media sensation, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has subtly owned up to what may be his real sexuality.
Bobrisky, whose sexuality is shrouded in controversy on Wednesday posted a video on SnapChat, in which he lauded his own cooking skills while frying egg.
“Don’t try me i was trained by my mum, we snatch husband when we want to. Name it is it by food, sex, fashion. Don’t try Bobrisky,” he wrote on SnapChat.
The controversial cross-dresser who recently charged £20 for a meet and greet event he organised in London also boasted that he has sex moves that could steal anybody’s man.
On several occasions, Bobrisky has denied vehemently the rumors of being gay. One of his denials had attracted a comment from an openly gay Nigerian, Bisi Alimi. Alimi called out Bobrisky for anti same sex prohibition law 2013, saying his comments have damaging effects on the LGBT community. Bobrisky later apologised.
The owner of Club Uno, Pretty Mike who was rumored to be Bobrisky’s partner also came out publicly last week to deny any such relationship. Pretty Mike cautioned Nigerians to desist from speculating on the cross-dressers sexuality.

Protesting Arik Air workers shut down Lagos operations.

The  staff of Arik Air are currently staging a protest at the domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed airport over the airline’s failure to pay their seven months salary arrears and other anti-labour practices.
The protesters displayed placards containing messages communicating their grievances.
The National Union of Air Transport Employees, Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers had in a joint statement on Monday ordered its members to commence the strike.
The unions said the strike would continue indefinitely, until their demands are met by the management of Arik Air.
Their demands include total unionisation of Arik Air employees, recall of all sacked employees and payment of salary arrears for seven months and a commitment to pay salaries as at when due, henceforth.”
They also called for the immediate review of all employee remunerations which had remained the same since the inception of Arik Air, over ten years ago.

Russian ambassador shot dead in Turkey

Russian ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Gennadyevich Karlov, has been shot dead while speaking at an art exhibition in the Turkish capital, the Russian Foreign Ministry, has confirmed.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the announcement in a live televised statement, Sky News reports.
She said, “Today in Ankara, as a result of an attack, the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkey, Andrey Gennadyevich Karlov, received a wound from which he died.
“We regard this as a terrorist act. The murderers will be punished.”
The 62-year-old ambassador had been attending an art exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Centre in the Cankaya area of Ankara, along with other dignitaries and media.
The gunman was Mevlut Mert Altintas, a 22-year-
old who had been working for the riot police squad in Ankara for the past two-and-a-half years.
He was off-duty when it was  understood he entered the building using his police ID and opened fire on the ambassador as he made a speech.
A video showed him shouting, “Don’t forget Aleppo, don’t forget Syria! So long as our brothers are not in safety, you will not taste safety either. Only my dead body will leave here.
“Whoever is involved in this cruelty, one by one, you will pay for it.”
The gunman also shot three other people, although none were seriously injured, according to Turkey’s interior ministry.
Turkish media said he then climbed to the second floor of the building before a 15-minute shootout with police, during which he was killed.
A photographer from Associated Press who had been at the exhibition said the gunman had been wearing a suit and tie and had shouted “Allahu Akbar” before firing at least eight shots.
He had also spoken in Russian and smashed several of the photos in the exhibition.

MMM to released suspended money in batches, says failure of scheme depends on subscribers

The popular money doubling scheme, Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, better known as MMM, appears set to lift the ban it placed on monies in the scheme following outcry by participants in Nigeria whose accounts were frozen barely a week ago.

The news of the ban lift published by a mysterious website is coming after a purported emergency meeting was held on Wednesday, by MMM Nigeria Global, which explained that the ban was to restructure the scheme, adding that the period of freeze may be less than a month depending on the speed of the programmers.

At the end of the meeting, the leadership of the ponzi scheme in Nigeria issued a communiqué stating that, within the one month of mavro ban, MMM Nigeria will continue growing, adding however, that the progress, failure and expectation of the scheme depends on the participants.

The communiqué reads in part, “The freeze periods may even be less than one month, but it all depends on programmers and how fast they can finish. This year, we will have a new model to help make this community sustainable in Nigeria.

“We will post clarification with more details about the frozen mavro on everyone’s Personal Office (PO). Some mavros will be released before the 30 days release date probably in batches.

“Next week, we will implement change of guider button on every participants PO. New section in our PO will be installed this week. PH and GH order dispatching has been stopped for a while, meaning they aren’t matching anyone for the meantime. We will use this period to tackle other issues we have with support.”

“MMM Nigeria’s progress depends on you, your expectation determines the future. You determine what you want. You have to encourage yourselves and your downlines.”

MMM: Dial 112 if any one attempts suicide due to crash – LASEMA advises

Following the outbreak of the ‘frozen’ accounts and alleged crash of the Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, otherwise known as ‘MMM’, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has cautioned that suicide rate ‘may’ rise in the state.
LASEMA gave the advice after a twitter user cautioned that suicide rates may increase in Lagos, due to the controversial ‘pause’ of the scheme.
On its Twitter handle @lasemasocial, the LASEMA RESPONSE UNIT dropped an emergency number to call should any case of suicide arise in any part of the state.
It said, “Dial 112 if you see any in your area. #LagosCares.”
This is coming a few hours after a soon-to-wed Benue man drank insecticide following the alleged crash of the Ponzi scheme.
Recall that promoters and participants of MMM in Nigeria on Tuesday woke up to the shocking news that the ponzi scheme was frozen and all confirmed accounts suspended.

“MMM WAS FROZEN BECAUSE NIGERIANS STARTED UPLOADING FAKE BANK TELLERS TRYING TO TRICK THE SYSTEM”- MMM NUMBER 1 GUILDER CHUDDY

Facts have emerged why popular Ponzi scheme in Nigeria, MMMfroze confirmed monies in the system for one month.
Recall that operators of the scheme last last night, December 12, froze mavros on MMM stating that it’s action was due to panic and heavy anti-MMM reports by the Nigerian media.
But the scheme’s number one guider, simply identified as Chuddy, has come out to clear the air on the development.
Hi Mavrodians, As we all must have seen in our PO of the news on Mavro frozen for a month. This isn’t the first of its kind. It happens when there are excess PANIC in the system,”he wrote on the MMM Nigeria website.
He added that the brief ban was also placed on Zimbabwe and after the duration it was lifted.
He revealed that the “idea is brought forward to calm the members down on intending threat the FG and Mass media has planned on the system.
“It doesn’t mean that there is no more money in the system because in my PO now as a guider, I have about 2million+ PH orders. And I know it would be like that in most Guiders PO too. So you see!!! Money to pay out the orders wouldn’t be a problem.

“But the Admins needed to apply measures to sustain the growth of the system. In order to fight issues that may arose as a result of Massive PH already this Christmas.”
He said issues like uploading of fake POP, non confirmation of orders and the rest also contributed to the short ban on mavro growth.
“We all need not panic as our money is in safe hands. Check out your Mavros and you see your money is intact both for 30% bonuses and 20% accrued bonuses
“You can keep PHing if you have the money, though you will definitely not be matched until Mavros are unfrozen. But that will really go a long way for you as your PH made this December will surely be giving you extra 20% after paying out next year.”
No cause for Alarm We live to expect a stronger MMM by January 14th, 2017
Guider
Chuddy
Another guider colloborates the message thus:
Michael N:
Good morning Mavrodians. What we are seeing now is the only practical measure to protect MMM Nigeria from danger. A lot of news of MMM crash this December has been on the social media and other news and gossip. This has really affected the system. There were heavy conspiracy by financial institutions to collapse the system.
What happened to the system last week would have been worse if GH is allowed today. Despite the holiday bonus, many participants were ready to GH today. The PH is not commensurate to the GH and this is the fear created by sponsored fake news. The truth remains that the mavros in the system are safe until they are unfrozen.
Those who have PH in the system shouldn’t cancel them because since all green mavro are frozen no PH will be paired. For those who understand the system, what has happened is a temporary measure to save the system and saving the system is saving our money. If we are allowed to GH, by next week there may be no enough PH to pair the GH then the worst will happen.
This is a kind of caution taken to avert danger. So our mavros are safe. I encourage those who want to PH to still do their PH. The maturity is January and doesn’t change anything by then the system is back and stronger.
Don’t loose hope, all of us have mavros in the system and let’s not use because of this little set back forget what MMM has done for us and will do more if the system is safeguarded. I personally feel the same way as you but it’s better to save the system than loose everything.
Some people are complaining why the Guiders were not informed and my response is, if the Guiders were informed the system will crash in less than 10mins of the information. The way you received the news is the way we Guiders received the news but we have the training that such thing may happen if there is evidence of danger ahead. This shows how firm and protective MMM is structured. Let’s be optimistic and positive. This is our community, let’s protect it.
I remain, Yours truly Michael N.
YOU CAN STILL PLEDGE HELP (PH) Some guiders further explained that participants can continue to pledge help even though mavros are frozen for the moment.
They emphasized that the strategy will strengthen the platform and make it more stable. However, getting help (GH) is suspended until January 15, 2016.

Lagos police commissioner gives plantain thief N10, 000, orders her release

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP, Fatai Owoseni, Monday ordered the release of a woman and her baby arrested for allegedly stealing plantain.
The lady, identified as Iya Ope was said to have confessed during interrogation that she was pushed into stealing the plantain in Agbowa Market, Epe, because she and her baby were hungry.
During an unscheduled visit to Agbowa Police Station where the lady was detained, the CP ordered her release.
He gave the lady N10, 000 and warned her never to repeat the act again.

Panic in Nigeria as MMM suspends operation, freezes accounts

Promoters and participants of Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, otherwise known as ‘MMM’ in Nigeria, are currently in panic as the ponzi scheme has been frozen.
All confirmed accounts, as at early hours of Monday, were frozen.
Mavro is the conventional unit for measurement of help provided to other participants in MMM.
With all confirmed Mavros frozen, all users who have provided help and awaiting to get help in few days can’t do so until the ban is off.
A circular sent out to all users yesterday said all money has been frozen for a month.
The circular urged all participants to be calm, saying it was to help prevent any problems during the New Year season.
The circular read: “Dear members!
“As usual, in the New Year season the System is experiencing heavy workload.
“Moreover, it has to deal with the constant frenzy provoked by the authorities in the mass media.
“The things are still going well; the participants feel calm; everyone gets paid – as you can see, there haven’t been any payment delays or other problems yet – but!.. It is better to avoid taking risk. (Moreover, there are almost three weeks left to the New Year.)
“Hence, on the basis of the above mentioned, from now on all confirmed Mavro will be frozen for a month.
“The reason for this measure is evident. We need to prevent any problems during the New Year season, and then, when everything calms down, this measure will be cancelled. (Which we will definitely do).
“We hope for your understanding!
“Administration.”

Sokoto governor, Tambuwal, loses in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has dismissed the bid by Governor Amunu Waziri Tambuwal to stop a court’s action challenging the propriety of his nomination for the 2015 governorship election by the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Supreme Court held that the nomination of Mr. Tambuwal by his party should be challenged by another governorship aspirant, Umaru Dahiru, on the ground that he has sufficient justifiable cause.
In a unanimous decision of a five-man panel of the Supreme Court Justices, the Apex Court held that to agree with Mr. Tambuwal that the primary election that produced him cannot be challenged by another governorship aspirant is to allow democracy to be murdered by the governor.
In the lead judgement by Justice Musa Mohammed, read by Justice Chima Nweza, the apex court set aside the decision of the court of appeal that the court action instituted by Mr. Dahiru against Mr. Tambuwal had been overtaken by events on the strength of the election of the governor.
The Supreme Court said the Appeal Court erred in law by holding that the event had overtaken the case simply because the governorship election had been conducted after the primary election.
The Apex Court therefore ordered that a Federal High Court in Abuja should retry the case on its merit and make decision as demanded by law.
Mr. Dahiru had challenged the conduct of the primary election that produced Mr. Tambuwal as candidate of APC on the ground that it was fraught with fraud because the original list of the delegate for primary election was swap in favour of Mr. Tambuwal.
By this development, the Federal High Court in Abuja will now determine the matter on its merit as ordered by the Supreme Court.

See what Sports Minister Told super falcons.

We can’t pay super falcons because we didn’t expect them to win-Sports Minister.

Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Solomon Dalong Thursday said that government has not been able to pay the allowances of the Super Falcons because their victory in Cameroon was not expected. Recall that the team on Saturday won the 2016 African Women Cup of Nations but had not been paid their allowances.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential Villa, Abuja, Dalong said that there was no money readily available to pay them. He however said that efforts were being made to find solution to the matter. He said: “It is unfortunate that we are celebrating victory of the Super Falcons amidst some bitter feelings among the players because of some administrative lapses that were not managed properly because if the situation was explained to these girls, I don’t think the situation would have gotten to this level. “They have stamped their authority and dominance over football in the continent, having consistently won the trophy eight times. “After the girls came back from Cameroon, we had launched with them and they were in high spirits, the communication gap in trying to convey the situation to them could have been what led to it.

CHAPECOENSE FOOTBALLER NETO, WHO SURVIVED THE PLANE CRASH WAS READING BIBLE BEFORE THE CRASH (

Chapecoense centre back, Helio Neto, one of only six people whosurvived the Colombian plane crash which killed 71, was reading a Bible passage about ‘being safe in the shadow of your wings’ before the crash. The footballer’s bible was found at the scene of the crash by journalist Roberto Cabrini.
In a video footage Cabrini notices the Bible with a note inside saying it belongs to the defender.
A bookmark had been inserted next to Psalm 63. It reads;

‘On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night; Because you have been my help; Then I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings. My soul follows you closely; Your right hand upholds me.”
The bible was handed to the footballer’s wife, who said that Neto is deeply religious and takes religious scriptures with him everywhere.
A total of 71 people lost their lives when the British-made Avro RJ85 aircraft came down en route to Medellin, where Brazilian side Chapecoense were due to play in the Copa Sudamericana final.
